Up In Smoke: Delta Flight Suffers Engine Fire on Takeoff Roll

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

On Jan. 10, a Delta 757 was on its takeoff roll out of John Wayne airport (SNA) bound for Atlanta (ATL) when the fire began. Passenger video shows the aircraft rolling down the runway when a boom was heard, followed by flames and smoke rolling out of the wing. The aircraft stopped safely, and fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze. The aircraft was towed back to the gate shortly after the event. No injuries were reported from the 172 passengers on the flight. The cause hasn't been determined yet and the NTSB will be investigating.
