On Jan. 4 GE Aerospace announced that it had successfully ground-ran its new GEnx engine on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel. This isn't GE's first SAF engine to operate; the LEAP 1B engine powered the first passenger flight to operate on 100% SAF, which flew from Chicago (ORD) to Reagan (DCA) with 115 passengers on Dec. 1, 2021. The race is on now, though, as Rolls Royce is also seeking to have a Dreamliner engine operate a transatlantic flight on SAF. GE currently dominates the 787 engine market share, holding over 60% vs RR. Who will be first to earn the "100% SAF Certified" stamp?
